The Sacred Convent in Assisi
Our Mother House

Assisi has attracted pilgrims and visitors
from every corner of the world
for almost 800 years.
The Sacred Convent in Assisi
has the care of the famous Basilica
where the mortal remains of
our Seraphic Father lie at rest.

This sanctuary is at the centre of our spirituality and is a source of inspiration for our apostolate.
As the head and mother
of all the friaries of the Order
it enjoys a supreme significance
for all the friars.
Therefore,
Wherever we may be working in the world
we always maintain a special spiritual bond with this holy place.
Here,
the body of St. Francis,
the great prophet of peace
lies in rest,
in a simple tomb.
Sepulchrum eius est apud nos usque in hodiernum diem:
"His tomb is with us to this day" (Acts 2.29).
