Peace and Justice

During his encounter with the lepers St. Francis did not cure them but, they cured him!

Moved by the example of St. Francis and St. Clare, true disciples of Christ, and convinced of the value of today's experience, we commit ourselves to be promoters of peace in thought and deed and with our minds and hearts turned toward the unity of the human family.

According to the example of St. Francis, "known and revered by many throughout the world as symbol of peace, reconciliation and brotherhood"(Pope John Paul II), we wish to bring peace and justice into our troubled world and walk along with those persecuted.

We feel motivated to do this by our Franciscan vocation and by the Spirit of Assisi that entered the Church and the world on October 27th 1986 when the spiritual leaders of the world religions gathered to pray at the tomb of St. Francis at the invitation of the Pope.

As faithful sons of the Church, we continue the prophetic mission of Christ,

who was sent to announce the Good News to news to the poor.

Acting for justice and participating in the transformation of the world is a constitutive dimension of preaching the Gospel.

St. Francis is the prophet of cosmic fraternity. As his sons, we consider ourselves as friends of everyone. We are brothers for all men and women of the world. We are growing in solidarity with all our brothers and sisters who suffer injustice, violence and persecution. We are committed to their liberation.

Together with all our Franciscan sisters and brothers around the world we commit ourselves to the following tasks:

  • In all the areas of our life and ministry, we commit ourselves to be promoters of peace, pardon and reconciliation among individuals, groups, peoples and nations.
  • We promote tolerance, hospitality and respect towards all cultures and religions, without renouncing our own humble fidelity to the Gospel truth.
  • We promote a social system where the dignity of every human life is regarded as a highest value and as a basic right.
  • Amidst the culture of greed and division we promote real respect for nature, the mother earth, which is the dwelling place of all the people of the present and future. Therefore we raise our voice against every form of exploitation of our planet Earth.

In a world wounded by hatred,
injustice and violence, we
Conventual Franciscans
try to be promoters of peace,
love and brotherhood.
