TWO GREYFRIARS ORDAINED TO THE DIACONATE

On 30th July 2017, five men were ordained to the Order of Deacons in the beautiful Church attached to the Priory of the Holy Spirit, Oxford – more commonly known as ‘Blackfriars’.
Three of those ordained belonged to the Order of Preachers (the Dominicans), but two of them (fra. Gerard Mary Toman and fra. Benedict Abugu) belonged to the Order of Friars Minor, Conventual (the Greyfriars).
The (Dominican) Archbishop of Liverpool, The Most Reverend Malcolm McMahon, celebrated the Holy Mass, and the five men were ordained together owing to the fact that they had undertaken their priesthood studies together through Blackfriars, Studium.
It was a joy-filled, blessed day, and a great testimony to the Goodness of God, the beauty of the Catholic Faith, the sacredness of one’s vocation and the wonderful traditions and history shared by these two great mendicant Religious Orders.
